BEAUTIFUL HOMES. REAL MINNESOTA WINTERS.

Choose for the look.
Plan for the climate.

❄

Ice dams start in the attic.

Heat leaking from the house melts roof snow, and it refreezes at the cold eaves. Air sealing, insulation and ventilation in the attic are the long-term fix.

≋

Snow piles up unevenly.

Wind piles drifts on lower roofs and against walls, and snow can slide from a steep roof onto a porch or entry. Both add uneven weight.

Freeze and thaw test the details.

Ice that forms under roofing can push pieces loose, and failed flashing is a major cause of roof damage. Clean gutters and sound flashing matter here.

Code calls for an ice barrier.

On shingle, slate and shake roofs, Minnesota code requires a waterproof ice barrier from the lowest edges to at least 24 inches inside the exterior wall line.
